A massive snow pile in West New York is turning heads this week as winter cleanup continues across Hudson County. The growing snow mound in West New York was shared with our team through a reader tip and has quickly become a very noticeable remnant of the recent snowstorm. As plows and public works crews continue snow removal efforts across Hudson County, consolidated piles of snow have created a towering mound that now stands several feet high. Here is what we know so far about the giant snow pile in West New York.
Following the most recent winter storm in New Jersey, which brought significant snowfall across the state, Hoboken recorded nearly 20 inches of snow. As is typical after a storm of that magnitude, snow removal operations began quickly to clear roads, sidewalks, and residential areas. With plows working around the clock throughout Hudson County, many residents have wondered where all of the collected snow is being transported.
On February 26th at approximately 11 AM, one of our readers who lives in West New York, just outside of Hoboken, sent a DM to our team reporting the ongoing snow dumping near the PF Chang’s at 10 Port Imperial Boulevard. According to the HG reader/WNY resident, snow has been continuously transported and unloaded outside their residential building for an extended period.

The reader shared, “These guys have been dumping snow for 72 hours straight, including overnight, and none of us can get any sleep because of the metal banging dumpsters.” The resident also stated that they attempted to contact local authorities but have not seen any action taken, nor were residents given advance notice about the dumping activity. Based on photos shared with our team, the snow piles appear substantial in size and continue to grow as trucks arrive.
We asked a spokesperson for the City of Hoboken what its snow removal plan is. Marilyn Baer shared the following information with us. “The City of Hoboken has designated several locations for snow dumping, including Sinatra Drive near the soccer field and Jefferson Street between 14th and 15th Streets, among others, following the more than 20 inches of snowfall received during the recent storm. After a storm, snow is first pushed to the curb and temporarily staged in smaller piles throughout the city to restore basic access as quickly as possible.
Once this initial phase is complete, City crews begin the labor-intensive process of removing the larger piles from streets and sidewalks and transporting them to designated snow stockpile locations. With nearly two feet of snow from this blizzard, the volume is substantial. Coordinating equipment, crews, and traffic must be done in phases and cannot be completed all at once. While the City does not coordinate snow removal operations with other municipalities, it does work closely with Hudson County to clear county roads.
Fortunately, unlike the previous storm that was followed by a deep freeze, warmer temperatures are expected to help with snow melt and removal efforts. The City will continue clearing parking lanes during scheduled street cleaning hours. However, please note that plowing takes significantly longer than the one-hour window allotted for street cleaning up to 16 blocks, so not all blocks will be completed during a single session. The Division of Public Works (DPW) will return during the next scheduled street cleaning to plow the curbside parking lane as necessary. Please remember to move your vehicle during street cleaning hours to allow plows to access the curb.”

DMR Architects is expanding its portfolio of design-build projects in the education space after winning new assignments in Hudson and Union counties, the firm announced recently.
In West New York, the practice is teaming with Terminal Construction Corp. to develop a 162,000-square-foot middle school that will serve about 875 students, according to a news release. That represents a $92 million investment, with plans calling for 30 general classrooms, six science labs, multiple science prep rooms, dedicated art rooms and a wide range of specialized learning and student support spaces designed to offer a modern, flexible and technology-forward educational environment.
The firms are also working together for the second project, a new 142,000-square-foot elementary school in Elizabeth that’s slated to serve more than 900 students, DMR said. The $76.8 million facility is expected to include some 50 classrooms ranging from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade, with six that are reserved for special education, as well as a resource room, five small group instruction rooms, three science classrooms and dedicated space for vocal music, art and a media center with a makerspace.
Both schools, which DMR and Terminal will develop under the oversight of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority, are slated to be completed in 2028.
“Design-build allows us to accelerate the entire process in ways traditional delivery can’t,” said Pradeep Kapoor, CEO and president of Hasbrouck Heights-based DMR Architects. “With tight timelines, we’re often able to begin critical-path construction months earlier because design and construction happen in parallel. That level of coordination and responsiveness is key when you’re building schools for growing communities.”
The new assignments follow the September openings of DMR’s most recent design-build projects, which include the Hudson County Schools of Technology Craig Guy Center at Bayonne High School and the Highland Avenue Learning Annex & Recreation Center in Wood-Ridge. The former is a 20,000-square-foot, $24 million vocational center with culinary labs and fabrication shops tailored for career and technical education, while the latter includes a 56,500-square-foot addition and 44,000-square-foot renovation to the existing Doyle School that addressed enrollment growth with new classrooms, flexible learning spaces and support facilities.
Together, the projects reflect how the design-build model is being used to reduce delays, improve cost certainty and unify design and construction under a single contract.
“Our priority was to deliver a high-quality facility on a timeline that aligned with our community’s needs,” Wood-Ridge Mayor Paul Sarlo said. “The design-build approach allowed us to move faster and stay coordinated throughout the process, which was essential for a project of this scale. The new Highland Avenue Learning Annex and Recreation Center has already had a positive impact on our district.”
DMR noted that design-build was made more accessible to public agencies in New Jersey following the Design-Build Construction Services Procurement Act of 2021, which allows municipalities and other government bodies to pursue such a model for projects valued at more than $5 million. The legislation has helped create more flexibility to help meet tight timelines and evolving student needs.
“The design-build process is efficient because everyone is working toward the same goal from the start,” said Donald N. Decisions are faster, challenges are resolved quickly and the whole project benefits.”
