BERGEN COUNTY, NJ - A Hackensack mom is preparing her 15th pop-up prom boutique where students can shop for their spring formal event for free.
“It’s one of my favorite days of the year,” Feehan said. “I love helping them pick their special outfit and seeing how happy they are. We have an area where they get their dress or suit wrapped and they can take a picture: ‘I said yes to the dress picture’.”
On March 1, Pamela Feehan will host a free-of-charge prom shop at the Ridgefield Park Knights of Columbus, 106 Bergen Avenue.

Feehan gets all the prom items donated and then gives them out for free.
“I hold drop-off nights and my friends use their homes as drop-off locations all over Bergen County,” she told TAPinto. “I also do local pick-ups.”
Feehan is originally from Ridgefield Park, but currently lives in Hackensack.
She has collected “about 1000 gowns and about 150 suits, 300 pairs of shoes and tons of jewelry and purses.”
She personally invites about 36 different school districts.
Who's eligible? Anyone who's going to prom, a formal or 8th grade dance is welcome to come. Everything is free.

BERGEN COUNTY, New Jersey (WABC) -- Several weeks after an unvaccinated child in Bergen County tested positive for measles, health officials now confirm two of the child's family members, who were also unvaccinated, have also contracted the highly infectious disease.
It comes as a separate outbreak in Texas led to the death of an unvaccinated child and health experts say it is a troubling trend.
"The vaccine is a personal decision, but also it affects other people as well, so when you don't vaccinate yourself, if there's any loved ones that you're around or just people in general that you are around, you could potentially infect them and cause them to have complications," said Dr. Matt Scro with Bergen New Bridge Medical Center.
Officials also say the child inBergen County visited three different medical facilities while infected, potentially exposing others during the dates and times listed:

The New Jersey Department of Health recommends that anyone who visited those locations during the specified dates and times to contact a health care provider immediately.
Health officials said people who were exposed could develop symptoms until as late as March 6.
"Somebody who's infected with measles can be transmitting it to another person for days before they even have the symptoms," said Dr. Perry N. Halkitis, Dean of the Rutgers School of Public Health. "And what is really problematic about measles and the spread is that it's an airborne disease. And so that it can exist in the air for two hours after somebody has been in a room."
Experts say no vaccine is foolproof, but it will likely prevent someone from developing complications.
And there is some good news for people who are unvaccinated and may have been exposed.
"If you are infected, you can be vaccinated up to 72 hours after exposure, and that has beneficial effects," Halkitis said.
Measles symptoms mimic cold and flu symptoms and the person can also develop a rash. Call a doctor if you're not vaccinated and think you may have been exposed.
The CDC currently recommends people receive two vaccine doses, the first at ages 12 to 15 months and the second between 4 and 6 years old. One dose is 93% effective, and two doses are 97% effective. Most vaccinated adults don't need a booster.
Measles was declared eliminated from the U.S. in 2000, due to the highly effective vaccination program, according to the CDC. However, vaccination rates have been lagging in recent years.
About 93% of kindergarteners nationwide received select routine childhood vaccines, including the MMR vaccine, for the 2022-23 school year, according to a November 2023 CDC report.
This is about the same as the previous school year, but lower than the 94% seen in the 2020-22021 school year and the 95% seen in the 2019-2020 school year, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The latter percentage had been the standard for about 10 years.

HACKENSACK — The city Zoning Board did not vote on an application for a 19-story assisted living facility on Prospect Avenue last week. The board heard testimony from a city engineer about possible impacts from the project Thursday and will hear more expert testimony and comments from the public before reaching a vote.
Residents have voiced concerns that the building proposed for 329 Prospect Ave. is too large and would be out of character for the residential area.
“This project is just too big for this property. That’s really what it comes down to in a nutshell,” said Diane Some, a lifelong city resident who lives in a nearby apartment building. “They’re trying to put a huge project into a property that had two homes. They’re taking a project that belongs in a destination where there’s a large venue, where people can walk around, and they’re trying to put it in a small residential neighborhood.”
The applicant, Hackensack Assisted Living LLC, is seeking to build a 150-unit, 19-story building on a vacant lot on Prospect Avenue. Four of those stories would be below ground and house 250 parking spaces.
As part of the project, the developer is also proposing creating a community park, with a therapeutic garden and a dog run. The development would have frontage on both Prospect and Summit avenues.
The developer has argued that while the project would be 261% over the allowable density of the area — set at 50 units per acre — other nearby apartment buildings are also well over that limit, including the Blair House, with 214 units, and the Pierre, with 269 units.
But residents, who worry that the development would bring increased traffic and flooding issues and would strain the city's public services and sewer system, have said the building is much larger than most of the surrounding residences, particularly on the Summit Avenue side, which is largely single-family homes.
On either side of the property on Prospect are seven-story apartment buildings; on Summit Avenue, two-story houses border the 1.51-acre site.
Joseph Basralian, attorney for the applicant, said it is his policy not to comment on an application that is still pending.
Multiple hearings have been held since the application was first presented more than a year and a half ago. Basralian said there will not be a vote at the February or March meetings.

HACKENSACK, NJ - The public school district will observe a half-day on Friday, January 10, 2025 “to provide the community with time to process and reflect on the profound loss of its beloved Principal Lillian Kelly Whitaker, whose leadership touched so many lives within our school family,” Superintendent Dr. Thomas McBryde said in a statement to the community.
Whitaker, who was the principal of the Nellie K. Parker Elementary School, passed on December 31.
“We recognize the deep impact this loss has had on our students, staff, and families. By dismissing at 12:30 p.m., we hope to give everyone the space needed to attend memorial services, seek support, or simply take time to process their emotions with loved ones,” McBryde said.
"While we understand this schedule change may create logistical challenges for some families, we believe it is important to honor Principal Whitaker's legacy and support those who are grieving. We are providing this advance notice to help you arrange alternative childcare or transportation as needed.
"Our school counselors remain available for anyone who needs additional support during this difficult time. Please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's school if you need assistance.
“Thank you for your understanding as we come together as a community to remember and honor a truly remarkable leader.”

In meetings over the past year and a half, the board has heard testimony on details of the proposed development at 329 Prospect Ave., and estimated traffic, construction and stormwater impacts to the community.
Some residents have opposed the application, saying it would bring additional noise and traffic to the area and strain the city's public services and sewer system.
In a letter to the board last spring, Barbara Gold, a resident of a nearby condominium, said the proposed business to provide “long-term care for the aged, staffed by employees who provide such care,” would be inconsistent with the residential zoning of the site.
“The fact that there are vacant lots in a residential district available for development cannot be justification for the board to ignore the intent of the guidelines” to maintain separate residential and business areas of the city, she wrote.
Diane Some, a lifelong, third-generation city resident who lives nearby, said Wednesday that the proposed building is out of character for the neighborhood.
“I feel I have a vested interest in Hackensack. I remember how it was years ago; I understand changes are necessary. Changes have to be made, but this is a residential street and to put this type of facility where beautiful homes used to be, it’s not appropriate,” she said. “Something has to go there, but not a 19-story assisted living facility.”
Some is part of a group of residents who oppose the project. She said she is hoping for a big turnout on Thursday to voice their concerns to the board.
“Hopefully everyone will be coming out in force,” she said. “We’re really concerned — it’s going to change the whole face of Summit Avenue.”
On either side of the property on Prospect are seven-story apartment buildings, but on Summit Avenue the area is less dense, with two-story houses bordering the 1.51-acre site.
The allowable density of dwelling units in the zone is 50 units per acre. Under those guidelines, the maximum number of units allowed at 329 Prospect would be 58. However, the applicant has argued, many of the apartment buildings along Prospect Avenue go well beyond that.
The Blair House, built in 1974 with 214 units, is 542% over the density limit. The Pierre, with 269 units, is 301% over the limit. The Stratford House, nearby on Overlook Avenue, is 261% over the allowable density — the same percentage as the proposed facility.
Joseph Basralian, attorney for the applicant, declined to comment and said there would likely be several more board meetings before a vote.
